Allegedly, Microsoft and OpenAI are strategizing to construct a $100 billion data center and supercomputer, potentially paving the way for the development of significantly more advanced AIs than currently achievable.
When the OpenAI team inadvertently trained a compact network beyond expectations, it appeared to grasp the problem beyond mere memorization, demonstrating remarkable proficiency with any test data. This phenomenon was termed "grokking" by the researchers, a concept introduced by science-fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein, signifying a deep understanding where the observer becomes integrated with the observed process.

The growing plastic waste in natural environments harms ecosystems and aquatic life. Material scientists are exploring natural alternatives for packaging and manufacturing. University of Maryland, College Park researchers have introduced a novel method, combining machine learning with molecular science, to identify biodegradable plastic substitutes.
A novel algorithm rooted in physical principles efficiently designs proteins to bind cancer drugs, potentially preventing overdose or allergic reactions. The researchers suggest this algorithm might outperform deep learning methods for creating proteins with unique specifications, offering promise in producing drug antidotes or delivery vehicles.
🧬 Biology & Medicine
Despite extensive efforts to improve cancer treatment, it remains a leading cause of death among U.S. children. In the first clinical trial combining drug sensitivity testing with DNA testing in pediatric cancer patients, known as functional precision medicine, researchers found it can match patients with more FDA-approved treatment options and significantly improve outcomes.
Adding to the list of reasons why getting at least eight hours of sleep is crucial, researchers have discovered that neurons remain active during sleep. Unbeknownst to many, the brain utilizes this period of rest to clear out accumulated waste materials.
🔭 Space & Astronomy
SpaceHopper, a three-legged robot has been developed to address the challenges of exploring low-gravity environments like asteroids or moons.
Relativity Space, a firm specializing in 3D printing technology for launch vehicles, has been awarded an $8.7 million contract by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to investigate real-time flaw detection in additive manufacturing.

According to Billboard, the debate surrounding the utilization of copyrighted material in AI has expanded with Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA.) unveiling a new bill this week. The proposed legislation would mandate companies to disclose whether they incorporated copyrighted content in their machine learning training datasets.
